  37. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Your TNC (with mods) should be ok.
  38. You will need a modem appropriate to the sat. The software is not expensive.
  39. Most is available only for DOS (i'd suggest PB/PG/SatSked) or Windows 
  40. (I'd suggest WiSP) all available very cheaply from AMSAT.

  42. If you will be going in for more than a single mode, then the DSP route 
  43. makes sense. The available DSP modems are VERY stable. Recommend AEA 
  44. DSP-2232 (good support), DSP-12 (support seems absent but the unit works 
  45. well), and soon to be available from TAPR -- DSP-93 kit.

  47. The 9600 bps sats are very busy, but there's always room for one more.

  78. software. I've been an amsat member when I was more active, but I think
  79. I'm lapsed now.  I was hoping to be able to do it as an incremental step
  80. up on the current station.  The dsp modems still sound like the best way
  81. to deal with the changing states of digital communications, but it
  82. doesn't seem that they are very stable yet either.

  84. Still, it would be a good way to keep in touch with the boat.  How busy
  85. are the satellites?

  135. I have used an ICOM R9000 with success downloading APT/AVHRR signals,
  136. however I have a friend that wants to get into this a 'little' cheaper. 
  137. Has anyone had any success getting APT/AVHRR downloads with success from
  138. an ICOM R7100.  If so, did any adjustments have to be made to the
  139. bandwidth.  I am not familiar with this unit, and do not know if there is
  140. an adjustment for this on the front control panel.  I have info coming
  141. from ICOM, however I would rather hear from the real users of this
  142. equiptment.
